Eid security of the houses in the city

Eid security of the houses in the city-

Police in Dhaka, Bangladesh, have urged residents to take extra precautions to ensure the safety of their homes during the Eid holidays. Police officials said many Dhaka residents leave the city during Eid to visit their village homes. During this time the number of thefts and robberies increased manifold as the houses were empty. Therefore, besides taking special measures, the police members have also advised the city dwellers to be vigilant.

Theft or robbery is not uncommon in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. But during the Eid, the capital becomes much more empty and the trend of such crimes increases, police officials say.
That is why the city dwellers are being urged to be vigilant by the police.

How serious is the situation of theft and robbery during Eid holidays?

A spokesman said police did not have statistics on the number of robberies in the capital during Eid al-Fitr or Eid al-Adha. Because they keep monthly statistics but do not save any statistics only during special festivals.

However, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Chief has advised the city dwellers a few days ago that burglary and increase in houses has increased due to vacancies during Eid. As a result, the city dwellers leave their valuables and gold ornaments at the homes of their relatives before going to the village houses. If there is no such relative, he advised to submit it to the nearest police station if necessary.

  • "Don't stop," said police sergeant Mahua Hajong
  • Reluctance to file a case at the police station, the police are also active if it goes viral on Facebook
Dhaka Metropolitan Police spokesman Md Faruk Hossain told BBC Bangla, "Criminals try to take advantage of empty vacations. Since many people go to village houses on big festivals like Eid, thieves can take advantage of this opportunity to steal from empty houses.

"We are taking extra precautions at this time. All police stations have been asked to provide additional patrols. But even then, it is not always possible to guard all the houses in Dhaka city. Therefore, we request the citizens to take precautionary measures themselves, ”he said.

A review of the newspapers of the last two years has shown that more cases of burglary, robbery or snatching have been filed in Dhaka in May and July than in the first four months of the year.

In 2019, Sohana Yasmin went to her village home for Eid holidays. Back in Dhaka, he saw that the grill of the house had been cut and clothes and valuables had been stolen. '' Everything went well. But even then the window grille was cut off. The doormen didn't even notice. " That same year he moved. He did not file a case or GDO at the police station saying the damage was less.

According to the police statistics, only a few specific groups are involved in such thefts. A police official said many homes become vacant every year during Eid or the big holidays. In many cases, thieves identify these homes by doing Reiki in advance. Especially two-storey or three-storey houses are targeted more. The investigation has shown that many times home security personnel also collude with these circles.

However, in many cases, the victims do not want to file a case with the police unless there is a major theft. As a result, the police are not interested in taking strict action in these cases.

All the allegations against the police - why are they involved in the crime?
The video of the hacked murder in front of the police is viral, what did the police do? The mother and son were released on bond in the middle of the night. Whose job was to cut the grill of the house and steal it. Police said that there are cases against this gang in Dhaka, Narayanganj, Munshiganj, Shariatpur and Pirojpur.

But why can't the police take action against the identified criminals in advance?

Khandaker Farzana Rahman, a professor of criminology at Dhaka University, told BBC Bangla: "Thefts and robberies are bailable crimes. In other words, even though these criminals were arrested, they later came out on bail and started committing crimes.

"But the problem in our country is that once the perpetrators are arrested and sent to jail, they are no longer monitored or followed up. As a result, the offender turns around and commits the crime again, getting the opportunity to commit the crime again and again. That is why the crime is not completely stopped.

Community policing to prevent crime-

Professor Farzana Rahman says the number of police in Bangladesh is still less than the population. In this case, community policing can play an important role in crime suppression.

If a community policing system is created with people from different walks of life, they will set up surveillance in the area around them. As a result, the perpetrators will not have the courage to commit any crime. There, regular police members will assist them if needed.

"If we can make these forums strong, then crime will come down to a great extent. But people of all walks of life should be involved in these forums. They will be able to take action against any crime with the help of regular police," he said.

Khandaker Farzana Rahman, a professor in the Department of Criminology at Dhaka University, says it is the responsibility of law enforcement agencies to provide all kinds of security to citizens. It cannot be argued that a citizen should be moved elsewhere for the safety of his valuable assets.

"Citizens also need to be vigilant, but law enforcement must provide full security," he said. There is no chance of them escaping responsibility. "

'' I think it's a mutual matter. There is a need for both law enforcement and civilians to be vigilant and take necessary steps to ensure security, ”he said.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police has given some suggestions to ensure security at home. These include:
